TikTok’s “Oyster Girl” Gets the Meme Treatment

A shimmering pearl surfaced on the Internet on Wednesday, October 11, when TikTok user @equanaaa chronicled an unsuccessful first date during which she enthusiastically slurped up 48 oysters — as an appetizer. And social media was immediately enthralled.

The two-minute TikTok starts in traditional “day in my life” form: @equanaaa films her walk to the restaurant, traces her steps to her seat, and then records herself receiving a round of appetizers. All appears to be going normally.

But @equanaaa orders a second, third, then fourth plate of a dozen oysters, which she douses in Tabasco and loudly slurps while murmuring things like “mm-hmm” and “it was so good.” She orders two lemon drops. Her date, who has a single drink, does not partake, which means that Fontaine’s Oyster Bar’s arguably most Internet-famous guest consumed an astounding 48 oysters.

@Equanaaa, however, was only just beginning — she then ordered her main course of potatoes and crab cakes.

“I’m like, ‘Baby, what’s next? What am I about to eat?'” she says in the video.

The TikTok takes a turn when the woman now lovingly known online as “Oyster Girl” realizes her date had said he was going to the bathroom but had actually left. She’s left with the tab, which she is is not happy about, despite the fact that the man had ordered only one drink. And the rest is history, as the memes and TikTok videos that ensued make amply clear.

While some responded to her commentary, others noted the extraordinary quantity or shellfish. “All she was missing was Nemo,” wrote @ashleyybanksss on X.

Many expressed worry for Oyster Girl’s digestive system.

And some just backed her up and said it made them hungry for oysters, too. To top it all off, the restaurant manager told Rolling Stone that the woman was nice and that her impressive feat was “nothing new.”
