Yemen Blues was founded in 2010 by lead singer Ravid Kahalani. The musical group draws on a powerful mixture of Yemenite, West African, and Jazz influences. Their mambo and North African rhythms create a joyful and deep foundation, while the vocals remind the listener of ancient Arabic chants — and at the same time, funk and blues.
Yemen Blues brings audiences to their feet whether in a rock club or a concert hall. Their sound is infectious, and the impulse to sway and sing along becomes involuntary.
From December 21–23, Yemen Blues and opener Ahmed Alshaiba can be seen at Joe’s Pub in New York City. Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm (EST).
