Maine College of Art & Design Announces 2022 MFA Visiting Artist Summer Lecture Series

Each year, MFA graduate candidates in both the first and fourth terms of their six-trimester Studio Art programs at Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) descend on the city of Portland for an eight-week summer intensive. These summer trimesters serve as a chance to bond as an artistic cohort while exploring the interdisciplinary conversation that will challenge and help form art created throughout the program.

A critical piece of what brings creativity to life in the two months of the MFA Summer Intensive is the intimate exchange between our emerging artists and the prestigious talent of the Visiting Artists on-site each week for lectures, critiques, and studio visits.

We are pleased to announce the first group of Visiting Artists confirmed for participation this year, which will include the thinking and work of:

  • Daniela Rivera, visual artist focused on understanding the object quality of images;
  • Jarrett Earnest, author, editor, and contemporary art critic;
  • Paul Mpagi Sepuya, photographer recognized for embracing the medium’s potentials for fragmentation and connection; and,
  • Josh Dihle, painter, carver and curator, among others.

In 2021, the MFA Visiting Artists list featured names such as Sam Cady, Jeffrey Dell, Adriane Herman, Lucy Kim, Carl Pope, Yumi Roth, and Deborah Wing-Sproul.

Looking for your chance to work with carefully selected faculty, visiting artists, and graduate advisors who emphasize the intersection of production, individual research, and critical analysis in your creative pursuits? Rolling admissions for the MFA program at MECA&D continue through May 2, 2022 (as space permits).

Program begins in June 2022. To learn more and apply, visit meca.edu/mfa.
