Stream Video Works by Major Artists Active in Asia on Watch and Chill

Watch and Chill: Streaming Art to Your Homes, a new subscription-based art streaming platform, seeks to explore ways of bringing together international art institutions, artists, and audiences around a curated selection of moving image artworks.

Co-presented by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) Manila, MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai, and M+ in Hong Kong as a way of responding to and examining the changing behavioral patterns of humans in the digital era, Watch and Chill shares video works by major artists active in Asia. Artists featured include Farming Architecture, Koo Donghee, Kim Heecheon, Mark Salvatus, Saroot Supasuthivech, Shireen Seno, Cici Wu, Oh Min, Wantanee Siripattananuntakul, Wang Gongxin, Yuan Goang-ming, Jiang Zhi, Cao Fei, Chai Siris, Cha Jeamin, Cha Jiryang, Kawita Vatanajyankur, CAMP, Cocoy Lumbao, and Tada Hengsapkul.

Watch and Chill isn’t only limited to the virtual space: it is also a physical exhibition. Staging the “home” as a primary site for consuming the Watch and Chill platform, the exhibition takes the form of a model house for its unique experience. Designed around four sub-themes — “Things in My Living Room,” “By the Other Being,” “Community of Houses,” and “Meta-Home” — both the streaming platform and the exhibition consider the multilayered connections of homes that have transformed into media environments.

“The city has moved into the bed.”
Linked through an unprecedented amount of data transmissions, our homes are now beyond the private function of “dwelling,” having entered the public realm long ago. The pandemic has only exposed this reality to a greater degree. Activating a media landscape that takes place in both home-as-museum and museum-as-home, Watch and Chill will serve as a testbed for the museum to experiment with the fluid possibilities of responding to our changing habits of media consumption.

The Watch and Chill streaming service will continue through February 2022, while the physical exhibition will travel to MCAD in October, MAIIAM in December, and M+ in January 2022.
