Visionary Art Collective (VAC) is thrilled to announce its first in-person exhibition in New York City, The Lens Through Which We See, featuring six contemporary landscape painters: Bri Custer, Colleen Gleason Shull, Julie Avisar, Ekaterina Popova, Amanda Hawkins, and Sarah Boyle. Each intends to capture the beauty of the natural world while conveying a deeper truth, filtering her observations through emotion and memory. The resulting paintings are both a celebration of the land and of the artist’s interiority, providing a locus for the interplay of perceived reality and personal understanding. While deeply tied to a physical place, the work aims for transcendence, gesturing beyond what is seen to what is felt. Through particular attention to each scene and what it evokes, the artists meld the observable universe with individual experience.
Based in New York City, Visionary Art Collective is a contemporary art and artist development company that uplifts artists through magazine features, exhibitions, podcast interviews, and mentorship programs. Starting as a blog in 2020 featuring artist interviews, VAC has since grown to collaborate with top curators and gallerists, and worked with thousands of artists worldwide.
The opening reception takes place on April 20 from 6 to 8pm (ET) at 72 Warren Street in Manhattan. The exhibition is on view from April 20 to April 27. Gallery hours are 10am to 5pm.
After April 27, private viewings will be available at the VAC Brooklyn office by appointment only.
