Institute of American Indian Arts Offers an MFA in Indigeous Arts

The MFA in Studio Arts program at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a low-residency graduate program that is mindful of students’ needs to maintain relationships with their home communities while they develop their professional arts practice. The core pedagogical approach of the program is based on nurturing mentorships with prominent Native artists.

The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) has been dedicated to the study and advancement of Native arts and cultures since its inception 60 years ago, and is deeply committed to student achievement and the preservation and progress of Native communities. The MFA in Studio Arts program furthers IAIA’s mission and reach by providing artists with an Indigenous-focused education that fosters the importance of lifelong learning and outreach.

The curriculum is based on Indigenous ways of knowing and directly engages with the complex histories and challenges of our time. It delivers a world-class contemporary arts education and empowers its students to give voice to a broad spectrum of Indigenous experiences. IAIA’s MFA program offers the opportunity for artists to remain committed to community while gaining an understanding of, and contributing to, emerging discourses of contemporary art production.

Applications are due January 13, 2023.
