Landmarks Unveils New Sarah Oppenheimer Work for the University of Texas at Austin

A new work by artist Sarah Oppenheimer creates unexpected sightlines and opportunities for social exchange. Commissioned by Landmarks, the public art program of the University of Texas at Austin, “C-010106” (2022) represents Oppenheimer’s first entirely outdoor work and her largest to date.

Comprising two reflective glass structures sited on a pedestrian bridge, it is intended to upend one’s sense of space, enabling pedestrians on top of the bridge to see the reflections of those underneath, and vice versa.

Landmarks will celebrate “C-010106” on September 15 with an online conversation featuring Oppenheimer; Lumi Tan, senior curator at The Kitchen in New York; and Andrée Bober, Landmarks’s founding director and curator. The discussion will explore the artist’s process for creating and engineering the work, the ways in which it responds to the site, and her interest in the built environment.

The program will also feature a video premiere of new choreography work by ARCOS, inspired by “C-010106.” This event is free and open to the public.
