Stanley Museum of Art Opens Homecoming, the First Show in Its New Building

The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art invites you to enjoy Homecoming, the inaugural exhibition in an exceptional new building in Iowa City, Iowa. Everyone is welcome and museum admission is always free.

Be among the first to explore one of the most important university-owned art collections in the United States. The Stanley collection contains significant holdings of African art; abstract expressionism; works on paper, textiles, and ceramics; as well as paintings by modern masters such as Pollock, Beckmann, Miró, and Motherwell.

Drawn from the Stanley’s holdings, Homecoming displays more than 600 works of art in all media by some 500 artists. All gallery texts are offered in English and Spanish. The exhibition includes well-known and beloved works from the museum’s collection side by side with new acquisitions, strategic loans, and other artworks that have rarely, if ever, been exhibited.

Homecoming is curated by Diana Tuite and Cory Gundlach, and supported by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation.

The Stanley Museum of Art is the ultimate destination on your next trip to Iowa City, the greatest small city for the arts and a UNESCO City of Literature. The Stanley is located within easy walking distance of the center of the University of Iowa campus and a vibrant downtown.
