The Rubin Museum’s newest exhibition, Healing Practices: Stories from Himalayan Americans, opens on Friday, March 18 with a free opening night celebration from 6–10pm, and free admission all weekend.
Practices for healing and well-being vary across the world. In Tibetan Buddhism, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being are interdependent and can only be achieved through a variety of holistic practices, from ritual to medicinal, that restore balance to these three aspects.
With over 25 objects from the Rubin Museum’s collection set alongside a selection of personal audio stories from community members, Healing Practices highlights the diverse ways that Tibetan Buddhist artworks and practices have served as road maps for well-being. The exhibition explores how these living traditions are transformed and adapted for today’s world, inspiring visitors to reflect on their own healing journeys.
The Friday opening night celebration will feature free admission to all galleries, cocktails in the K2 lounge, a docent-led tour of the new exhibition, music and performances by Tibetan singer Yesh and Nathan Harrington, and dancing. The night also marks the launch of the Rubin Museum’s Spiral magazine 2022 issue, which explores healing through essays, interviews, practices, artworks, and more.
