ASU’s MFA in Art Offers Three Years of Teaching, Scholarship, and Extensive Funding

The MFA in Art at Arizona State University’s School of Art is a top-ranked program with a three-year teaching assistantship and scholarships offering pathways to advance artistic practice. In close mentorship with our distinguished faculty, students produce culturally relevant work to sustain a lifelong creative practice.

The program encourages innovative thinking, interdisciplinary research, and working with faculty across campus. Students move within and across disciplines in animation, ceramics, intermedia, metals, painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, and woods. Each semester they pursue thematic topic seminars, addressing issues such as social practice, environmental justice, sustainability, and emerging technologies.

Graduate students have 24/7 access to individual, world-class studio space at Grant Street Studios in downtown Phoenix. This facility houses two galleries and enhanced resources, including a wood shop, printmaking presses, a photography darkroom, kilns, and computer and 3D printing labs.

The MFA program culminates in a solo thesis exhibition in one of our three galleries. The ASU Art Museum, Ceramics Research Center, and cultural metro area institutions offer vital opportunities to connect with artists and curators.

At ASU, we value diversity and creative thinking to advance research and discovery of public value, and we assume fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural, and overall health of the communities we serve.
